Well, welcome I guess. I am loath and despise to be (ugg) blogging; however in much the same way as I started playing World of Warcraft, I have recently succumed to overwhelming peer pressure to start a blog. Ooooff, I'm a Lemming. Suffice to say this, like that first day of WoW, I mark as a bit of a dark day, though I'm sure it will clear up eventually. In an effort to streamline the proccess I'll first cover some of the really basic ground rules.
Anything I post here, unless specificly indicated otherwise, is not to be considered, directly or indirectly, to be associated with my employer, past or present.
If you are somehow offended by anything I say here I have this little jem for you, "Sod off you little wanker!"
I get the final say on what goes up, if I don't like it... well see #2.
That all being said, what is a Codewhore(tm) and why oh why would I call myself one? The simple answer is that I don't think of Codewhore(tm) as a denigration, rather as an aspiration. The slightly longer, but equally simple, answer is that I'm a programmer who has been fortunate enough to make it a career not just a hobby. I have in the past been an ITWhore(tm), Amdinwhore(tm), Techwhore(tm), DBAwhore(tm) and a host of others, currenty I'm a Codewhore(tm) and I like it. Anyone who is a Codewhore(tm) probably knows it but may not be quite as willing to admit to it. Codewhores(tm) are simply professional programmers, in whatever field. We view our jobs as fun and challenging because we chose them based on what type of work we would be doing, how interesting it is, and the personal returns, monetary or otherwise. Script Kiddies are patently excluded from being Codewhores(tm) but could become one if they were to surrender their menial ways and see the light.
Naturally I haven't always been a Codewhore(tm) that would be nigh imposible. To be fair though I did start on one of these little beauties, this particular model in fact. Since then, when we were saving onto our super advanced cassette tape drive, I've programmed on a number of different platforms in an euqally varied set of languages. Do I remember them all? Hell no! I'm personally not terribly abashed by propmptly forgetting most of Forth after the novelty of being able to alter a fundamental unviersal constant in a matter of seconds wore off with the realization of how fundamentally wrong that was.
Don't let the title and introduction decieve you, this won't all be programming it will be whatever I like. I could talk about programming, some particular design or technology that has peaked my interest, a revelation, or how my puppy just went to the vet and is feeling dejected and misserable. Now that we've gone over the brief intorduction we can move along, and remember that my stock answer to all complaints is "Sod off you little wanker!"
